WILMINGTON - Lorraine Gwynn Barber was born May 5, 1942, in Richlands and moved to Orlando, Fla., in August of 1960. She died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington while on vacation.
Lorraine loved working with her flowers, quilting and traveling and shopping. She fell in love with following Prince William and Kate's wedding and she loved finding out the history of her family. Also one of the delights she had was sitting on her new porches.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with the Rev. Robert Jarman officiating. Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Barber; daughters, Benita Badertscher and her husband, Wayne of Chuluota, Fla., Delores Williams and her husband, Ronald of Mt. Dora, Fla., and Roberta Barber of Orlando, Fla.; and like a daughter, her niece, Myra Canuel; her beloved pet, Sophie; a brother, Leonard Gwynn and his wife, Diane of Richlands; sisters, Daisy Bell Foy MaryLou Marshburn and Patricia Foster, all of Richlands; grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn Fricker-Badertscher and Wayne Scott Badertscher; great-grandchildren, Brooke Eileene Fricker-Badertscher, Delilah Lynn Fricker-Badertscher and Blake Aydan-Burnette Badertscher.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at Johnson Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
