Mary H. Hadley, 87, of New Bern, N.C., and formally of Swansboro, N.C., passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Carteret General Hospital, Morehead City.
A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mildred's Catholic Church, Swansboro. Burial will follow in Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville.
Mary Ann was born in Richmond, Va., Aug. 9, 1926, to the late Jessie and Faye Hall. She married her lifelong soulmate, John Arthur Hadley on Aug. 23, 1947.
Being a wife of a Marine officer, she was able to live in many different places. At retirement, they moved to Bear Creek, then to The Villages at Swansboro and spent the last three years at Croatan Assisted Living in New Bern.
Mary enjoyed reading, playing cards, crocheting and knitting.
But above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and enjoying her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ret. Major John Hadley (2006); and her brother, Jessie "J.B." Hall Jr.
Survivors include her four sons, John "Jack" Jr. and his wife, Tanis, of Columbia, Md., Robert "Bob" and his wife, Lori, of Swansboro, N.C., Michael "Mike" and his wife, Cindy, of Cape Carteret, N.C. and James "Jim" of Cedar Point, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Keith) Hadley-Dixon, Emily Hadley, Hannah Hadley, Tiffany (Chris) Thomas, Kirill Hadley, James "Jamie" Hadley and Ashley Hadley; and one great-grandson, Ryan Swinson.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, Swansboro, N.C. and also for one hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mildred's Building Fund, 616 East Sabiston Drive, Swansboro, N.C. 28584.
