Melvin Monk Obituary

NEWARK, N.J. - Melvin Monk Sr., 52, of Newark, N.J., died Sept. 21, 2011, at Beth Israel Hospital, Newark.

Services will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 1, at Saunders Funeral Home, Jacksonville. Burial will be at the James Family Cemetery, Maple Hill.

He was a security officer for New Community Corp. He also worked for Brookins Auto and Jmack Auto, and was a sales manager for International Auto Sales.

Survivors include his daughters, Chartia Brookins of Perth Amboy, N.J., and La-Nija Brookins, Melisha Hogan and Yolanda Hogan, all of Newark, N.J.; son, Melvin R. Monk Jr. of Newark, N.J; sisters, Velma Simmons of Walkertown, Brenda Bannerman and Gloria Monk, both of Maple Hill, Carolyn Monk of Texarkana, Texas, and Wanda Sharpless of Louisburg; brothers, Roscoe Monk Jr. of Pittsburgh, Kenneth Monk of Kenansville and Harry Monk of Clermont, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren.
