Walter David McCallister, 66, of Jacksonville, passed away Monday afternoon, Nov. 12, 2012, at his residence.
Dave was a retired gunnery sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was also a Purple Heart recipient and a Vietnam veteran who proudly served his country.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Alferd McCallister and Sinnia Foster McCallister; brothers, Elmer and Carl McCallister; and sisters, Macil Bayer and Mary Ervin.
He is survived by his wife, Arnetta McCallister of Jacksonville; sons, Jeffrey McCallister, Steve McCallister and Craig McCallister, all of Jacksonville and Joe Marshall (Lisa) of Sneads Ferry; brothers, Lewis McCallister of Newport, Clarence McCallister of Hubert, Delbert McCallister of Sanford, Basil McCallister of S. Charleston, W.Va., and Robert McCallister of St. Albans, W.Va.; sister, Darlene Ellis of Holly Ridge; grandson, Sean Marshall; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Dave will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 at Johnson Funeral Home of Jacksonville. Services for Dave will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home with Pastor Damon Lee of Victory Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow the service at Seaside Memorial Park in Swansboro.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victory Baptist Church or Liberty Hospice in his memory.
