JACKSONVILLE - Walter Wayne Vatcher, 60, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Aug. 4th, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Revs. George Speake and Chris Aydlett officiating. Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park.

The son of the late Walter Wells Vatcher and Nelly Elizabeth Bell Vatcher, Walter was the husband of Sheila Vatcher, father of Hayley and Matthew Vatcher, brother of Cindy Vatcher Rose and husband, Meredith of Virginia Beach, and loving uncle of many nephews and nieces. He graduated from Jacksonville High School, UNC-Chapel Hill, and received his law degree at Campbell University. He started his career as an assistant district attorney and later joined Jimmy Gaylor and Dewey Edwards in their law practice.

Walter was involved in community affairs. He was past president of Onslow County Bar Association and a member of pre-trial resource committee. He served for 27 years on the Onslow County Military Affairs Committee and coached youth basketball and baseball.

Walter Vatcher impacted the lives of so many. He never spoke to anyone without putting a smile on their face. His friends and family knew that they were loved by him so much. He never met a stranger, treating everyone in his path as special as the next. He always felt that the greatest accomplishments of his life were his wife, two children, and having the absolute best friends in the world. Walter was a great teacher and mentor as he taught so many people important lessons in life.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
