Willie Leroy Anderson, 84, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at his residence.
Mr. Anderson retired from the United States Marine Corps after serving 24 years and then went on to work with civil service. He received the Purple Heart, expert Rifleman Medal, and was a Vietnam veteran, he was also a member of the Chosen Few. He also worked with the Onslow County Sheriff Department as a dispatcher for about 10 years. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Anderson; sons, LeRoy Milford, Ricky Anderson.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 at Johnson Funeral Home, Jacksonville with the Rev. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Elna Anderson; sons, Bill Anderson of Georgetown, S.C., Jimmy Anderson of Mt. Gilead, Michael Anderson of Dover, N.H.; daughters, Susan Neal of Glen Rose, Texas, Judy France of Jacksonville, Patti Bryan of Sumter, S.C.; brothers, Ralph Anderson of Lugoff, S.C., Louie Anderson of Aiken, S.C.; sisters, Kathleen Young of McBee, S.C., Vera Mae Hinson of Rock Hill, S.C.; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
