RICHLANDS - Linda Barber Hawes, 65, of Richlands, died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Onslow Memorial Hospital.
Linda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Linda retired in 2010 after working for 37 years as an elementary teacher for both North Carolina Public and Camp Lejeune Dependents School systems and as an elementary school principal for Camp Lejeune Dependents School system. Linda was a graduate of Duke University and East Carolina University. Since retiring, Linda enjoyed being a master gardener, a sister of Alpha Delta Kappa, member of the Camp Lejeune – Jacksonville Coin Club and Northwoods Garden Club. Linda was also an active member and elder of First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville.
The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Richlands.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville with the Rev. Dr. John Kerr officiating. Burial will follow in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace.
Linda is survived by her husband, Edward Hawes Jr.; son, Eric Hawes and his wife, Heather, of Plainsboro, N.J.; son, Nathan Hawes and his wife, Devon, of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; grandson, Jackson Hawes and granddaughter, Rebecca Hawes of Plainsboro, N.J.; sisters, Wanda Barber and Josephine Barber Jackson; and brother, Jimmy Barber of Micro, N.C. Linda was predeceased by her parents, Jackson and Eunice Barber; brother, Jackson Barber Jr.; and son, Zachary Hawes.
