Vila was a woman of faith; she loved her Lord and Savior and the fellowship of the church. She was fearless, loved to laugh, and also loved and supported her husband throughout his military career. She dauntlessly faced the challenges of raising and relocating a young family during his lengthy deployments. As with most grandmothers, her grandchildren were the apple of her eye.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, A. Kenneth Carlton Jr. (Helen), Martha Heiser (Tom) and Chris Carlton; grandchildren, Kimberly Cox (Jeff), Casey Carlton (Rikki) Todd Carlton (Kelly), Jennifer Maguire (Kurt), Jesse Lyell, Jake Lyell (Annet), Hannah Carlton, Jayson Oliver, Joanne Cassar and Seth Carlton; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Vera Jackson; and numerous other family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 at Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake, Va. They will also receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1 at the Swansboro Church of Christ, 641 W. Corbett Avenue, Swansboro with a service to celebrate her life to begin at 11 a.m. with Larry Maddox officiating. Following the service she will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
