Earth has lost a wonderful person and Heaven has gained a beautiful soul. Barbara (Bobbie) Burton Florie, a loving mother, adored grandma, great-grandma (GG), and cherished friend of so many, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014. The eldest child of George and Ruth Burton, Bobbie was born in Baltimore, Md., in 1921. She was predeceased in 1997, by her husband, LCDR Walter M. Florie. During his career in the Navy, the Florie family of five traveled extensively to a number of duty stations and have fond memories of living in Hayama, Japan, for two years before finally settling in Jacksonville in 1955.

Bobbie will always be remembered for her kind and positive spirit, radiant smile, warm personality, and love of her family and her church community and circle. She loved the many family gatherings and reunions held during the summers on Emerald Isle and later in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was the anchor of her immediate and extended families. Bobbie is survived by her children Barbara Lynn Haddock (William), Walter Miller Florie Jr. (Linda) and Deborah Ann Ferebee (Jim); her six grandchildren, Brian Haddock and Jennifer Haddock Sober, Jason and Brett Florie, Trip and Scott DeForrest; her eight great-grandchildren; and two aunts, Elizabeth Dail and Stella Williamson, both of Portsmouth, Va.
Bobbie loved being active and traveled with family on a number of occasions. She had the opportunity to visit Israel, England, Scotland, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Alaska, Hawaii, Montecito, Calif., Bowie, Md., Florida, Atlanta, Bermuda, Montana, Palm Desert and Newport Beach. She was an avid reader, loved a challenging daily crossword puzzle, played bridge weekly and was very active in the Trinity United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
A celebration of Bobbie Florie's life will be held in Jacksonville at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7th at Trinity United Methodist Church, followed by a reception at the Church. All family and friends are invited to attend.
