Richard Barry Vrooman, beloved and cherished, of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, June 25, 2014.

Born on September 19, 1959, in Brockport, N.Y., he was a son of Donald Thomas Vrooman of Verona, N.Y., and the late Nola Elizabeth Hastie Vrooman. He was a 1977 graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill before moving to North Carolina. In 1981, he graduated from Coastal Carolina Community College and worked as a heating and refrigeration repairman.
In addition to his father, he is survived by two daughters, Samantha Vrooman of Greensboro, Kara Vrooman of Charlotte; a stepdaughter, Nina Mallory of Holly Ridge; three brothers, Alan Vrooman of Verona, N.Y., Robert Vrooman of Camden, N.Y., Stephen Keller of W. Palm Beach, Fla.; a grandson, John Mallory; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by a brother, Steven Vrooman.
A memorial service will be held a 2 p.m. Sunday, June 29 in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville, with the Rev. John Allegri officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
