Dorothy Morton Mix (DG), 63, of Jacksonville died with grace and courage at her home on Monday, July 14, 2014.
A native of Jacksonville, she was the daughter of Cal Emmitt Morton and Estelle Evans Morton. She was predeceased by her father.
Dorothy graduated from White Oak High School and worked as an accountant for several major corporations before becoming Vice President of Finance with Zema Corporation in Raleigh. Later she partnered with her husband to start a very successful Remax real estate franchise. Most recently, she was employed by MCCS at Camp Lejeune.
Dorothy was a member of Calvary Chapel in Apex and Calvary Chapel in Jacksonville. Family meant everything to Dorothy. In 1999, she successfully donated one of her kidneys to her mother. In 2010, she and Roger moved back to the family farm to be closer to her mother and sisters.
Surviving are her husband, Roger Mix; her mother, Estelle Morton; sisters, Patsy Morton, Barbara Morton, and Jane Ayers; Roger's son, Adam Mix, and wife, Dawn, of Dale, Indiana; Roger's daughter, Erin Mix, of Spencer, Indiana; two grandchildren, Grace Mix and Liam Mix.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at Jones Funeral Home, 303 Chaney Avenue, Jacksonville, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m.
