Herman Moore Jr., "Scootie," 76, of Morehead City died Friday, July 25, 2014, at Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A funeral will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Best and the Rev. Danny Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Moore served in the USMC from 1956 to 1960. He was one of 12 children born into a farming family. He worked for Lance Distributorship while in Jacksonville, NC and owned a Tom's Distributorship. He moved his family to the Morehead City area in 1981, and opened his own automotive service center. He eventually expanded and relocated his business to 4142 Arendell St. which is now operated by his son and called Moore Auto Clinic. He was also proprietor of Herman's Used Cars.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn Rose Nelson Moore of Morehead City; a daughter Marilynn Joyce Veltman and husband TJ of Newport; a son Christopher Dale Moore and wife Jessica of Morehead City; sister Emma Laura "Sis" and husband William Killingsworth of Goldsboro; two brothers Jesse Moore of LaGrange, and Marvin Trelis Moore and wife Alice of Morehead City; three grandchildren Jordon Christopher Moore of Morehead City, Brittney Alexandra Moore of Morehead City, and James Bradley Veltman of Newport; a great grandchild David Bradley Veltman of Newport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Lillie Moore, brothers Hardy Perry Moore, Herman Guilford "Buddy" Moore, Dallas Milfin Moore, Elwood Ashley "Tink" Moore, Jay "Pete" Moore, Ronald Lee Moore, and sisters Mary Lillie "Doot" Brown, and Mildred Frances "Booty" Franklin.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Munden Funeral Home.
