RICHLANDS - Mary Margaret Maykovich, 63, of Richlands, passed away peacefully in her home on Jan. 3, 2010, just eight days shy of her 64th birthday. Mary was born in Newark, N.J. on Jan. 11, 1946, to Vincent and Marie Feeney. She grew up in Vista California where she met and later married her husband of 43 years, James "Jim" Maykovich on Dec. 2, 1966. Soon after their marriage, Jim and Mary moved to Camp Lejeune where their first of five children was born. In 1968 their second child, Matthew Francis died shortly after birth on October 14 of that same year and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery. At the end of 1968 the couple moved back to California where they were blessed with three more children. The family moved back to North Carolina in 1978 where they have remained to this day. Mary was well known throughout the community and was always there to lend a hand to those in need. Mary was a proud military spouse and devoted much of her time during Jim's 32 year career as a U.S. Marine supporting her family as well as those of his fellow Marines. Mary was very proud of the military service of all four of her children and spent countless hours at the Richlands Post Office where she would regularly send the world's best care packages when their service took them overseas. She was an avid reader and loved crafting and collecting but most of all; she was a devoted wife and wonderful mother that loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband Jim and her four children, Michael (Maria), Vincent (Shannon), Andrew (Annette), and Amy (Scott); and 12 grandchildren, Michael, Xochitl, Eric, Bailey, Lauren, Madalyn, Ashley, Calvin, Juliette, Maykovich and David, Leeann, and Liana Beardsley. Mary was a special lady and we will all miss her very much. The family will hold a private memorial service at their residence.
