JACKSONVILLE – Marvin Dean Wright, 71, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Wright was born March 16, 1941, in Briceville, Tenn. He joined the United States Marine Corps in March of 1960, honorably serving for 20 years. His military service included two combat tours in the Republic of Vietnam and two tours of duty in Okinawa, Japan. He then retired as a gunnery sergeant in January of 1980, while stationed with Camp Lejeune's 8th Engineer Support Battalion.
Mr. Wright earned an associate in arts degree from Columbia College in Columbia, Mo., and following his military service, worked for 20 years at the Environmental Management Division at Camp Lejeune.
He and Kila, his wife of 50 years, attended Verona Baptist Church. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing golf with his friends, and riding his John Deere tractor. He also had a love of music and enjoyed singing and playing his guitar.
Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, Kila; their son, Mike and his wife, Shirley, who live in Jacksonville; and their daughter, Karen and her husband, Dan Wilson who live in Stafford, Va. He is also survived by three wonderful grandchildren – Madison Wright, David Wilson, and Dylan Wilson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Jaricia (Sharp) Wright; and brothers, Lawrence Jr. and Donald Wright, all of Lake City, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14 at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville. Burial with military honors will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday.
