Durwood "Doc" Hobbs, 87, of Jacksonville, passed away Feb. 22, 2013, in his home at Catherine's Lake, Richlands.

Mr. Hobbs was born in Pink Hill and served in the United States Army 1945-1949, after his military service he worked for Camp Lejeune Publics Works 1950-1954, Camp Lejeune Fire Department 1955-1977, Lanier Surveying 1977-1987.

He enjoyed his hobbies as a historian/photographer, talking about his time in the Army during/after World War II, tending to his garden, enjoying his yard full of flowers and attending church at Solid Rock Independent Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Rodney Humphrey officiating from Solid Rock Independent Baptist Church. Burial will follow with military honors at the Stump Sound Primitive Baptist Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Anna Lea Baxter Barber Hobbs of Jacksonville; children, Betty Hobbs Newbold (Ronnie) of Richlands; Shelby Ilene Hobbs Harvill (Mark) of Nashville, Tenn.; Penny Hobbs Likens (Jimmy)of Chiquapin; Rose Hobbs Dail (Junior)of Petetier; Carlton H. Barber (Andrea)of Jacksonville, Fla.; Valeria Barber Cox of Richlands; grandchildren, Sheri Novack, Ronald Newbold, Chris Newbold, Jennifer Murphy, Stevie Mills, Patricia Prince, Daniel England, Matthew Likens, Ryan Dail, Brooke Campilongo Rayburn, Brandon Barber Elliott, Paul Campilongo, Ryan Barber, Candace Cox Debeaumont; great grandchildren, Morgan Bradfford, Emily Newbold, Hayden Newbold, Adam Murphy, Devan Murphy, Stevie Mills III, Jack Mills, Jacob Prince, Courtney Waterhouse, Peyton Debeaumont; sister, Martha A. Hobbs Brooks of Jacksonville; caregivers, Emily and Melanie of Liberty Home Health.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph M. Hobbs and Annie E. Williams Hobbs; daughter, Rita Hobbs Yandel; brothers, Joseph T. Hobbs, Rufus E. Hobbs, Acy R. Hobbs; sisters, Daisy J. Hobbs Hansley; L. Christine Hobbs Brown, Gladis M. Hobbs.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home of Jacksonville.
