VERONA-James "Ray" Marley, 79, died May 25, 2013 at home surrounded by loved ones. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel with the Rev. Gary Gurganus, Pastor James Spencer and Elder Elmer Padgett officiating. Burial will follow at the Davis Family Cemetery, N.C. 50.
He was preceded in death by his first great-grandchild, Chandler "Rae."
Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Vera Padgett Marley; two daughters, Sharon Gurganus (Gary), Gail Lanier (Robert); son, Jamie Marley (Beverly); brother, Delmar Marley of Bell, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Candida Grogg, Tiffany Cook, Nikki Panos, Brandon Byrd, Tyler Lanier, Zack and Taylor Marley; eleven beautiful great-grandchildren to whom called him, "Woo"; also survived by several nieces and nephews and other relatives that adored him.
He was retired from the Marine Corps Exchange Maintenance aboard Camp Lejeune. Our Daddy was always the life of a party, filled with humor and fun and he never met a stranger. He loved everyone he met.
The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
