Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jim Daub officiating. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Rutter.
Survivors include her sisters, Jean Ericson and Sue Ramthun, both of Tomahawk, Wis. and Shirley Sadowski of St. Louis; brothers, Jerry Rutter of Forsyth, Mont. and Mike Rutter of Hampshire, Ill.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Memorials may be made at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 305 U.S. Hwy. 70, Havelock, N.C. 28532.
