Linda McKinley Zimmerman passed away June 9, 2014, at the place she loved to be the most -- her old log cabin in Rothrock State Forest in central Pennsylvania. She died unexpectedly in her sleep of a cardiac event at age 67.
Born August 28, 1946, in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Vincent McKinley, M.D., and Marjorie Morton McKinley.
She grew up and graduated from high school in Brookville, PA, and then went on to earn her B.A. from Syracuse University in French and political science, and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.
Linda worked as a chartered financial analyst in investment banking at firms including Mesirow Financial, at Stifel and at McGladrey.
Linda had two beloved daughters, Kristen and Sara, with R. Eric Zimmerman of Punxsutawney, PA.
Linda had a passion for culture and languages and love to travel. She shared many trips around the world with her family and friends, always a little off the beaten path, the most memorable including treks through the Semien mountains in Ethiopia and Ladakh, India. She lived in France for periods during college and after retirement. She was a natural gourmet cook with considerable originality and breadth, and developed bread recipes that she enthusiastically shared. She also had a big, abundant plot at a community garden.
Surviving Linda are her daughter Kristen, grandson Jonah, and daughter-in-law Adrienne in Oakland, CA, sister Barbara McKinley of Ann Arbor, MI, and brother Mark McKinley of Brookville, PA. She has numerous cousins throughout the U.S. and two Thai cousins from Chiang Mai, Thailand. And two beloved cats, Koko and Zoe.
There will be a memorial for family in Brookville on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at her brother's home. Plans for a memorial sometime in the future in the Chicago area are under development. Memorials may be made to the
