Mr. Ricky Warren Goodman of West Jefferson died on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was 51. Mr. Goodman was born on Dec. 28, 1963 in Wilmington, Del. to the late Warren George "Dub" and Ann Blevins Goodman. He graduated from Beaver Creek High School then attended Mars Hill College before earning his master's degree at Appalachian State University. He began his teaching career in 1986 at Beaver Creek High School and retired from Ashe County Middle School in 2014. Ricky was a member and was serving as a deacon at Beaver Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed working with the kids at the schools, riding his motorcycle and being president of the local car club. Ricky had a caring and helping nature, never wanting recognition for helping people in need. Mr. Goodman is survived by his wife, Melissa Mock Goodman; two daughters, Lyndsi Goodman and Caroline Goodman of the home; his mother, Ann Blevins Goodman of West Jefferson; one brother, Michael Goodman and wife, Shannon of Ferguson; one sister, Angie Miller and husband, Chris of West Jefferson; nieces and nephews: Zoey Miller, Braylin Miller, Matthew Ball, John Ball, Patrick Mock and Emmitt Mock. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Johnny Goodman. Burial followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. Eddie Dean "Slick" Greer of Kannapolis died at his home on Saturday, May 9, 2015. He was 67. "Slick" was born on Jan. 4, 1948 in Ashe County, the son of the late Charlie Victor Greer and the late Agnes Ham Greer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Greer. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he received the Bronze Star. He worked for Cannon Mills as an order picker in the shipping department. Later he worked for N.G.K. in Mooresville where he retired at age 62. Eddie was a member of St. Andrew's Church. Mr. Greer is survived by two brothers, Robert Greer (Janice) of Kannapolis and Richard Greer (Carol) of Lansing; seven sisters: Georgia Greer of Jefferson, Lena Rinear of Fitzgerald, Ga., Ella Shepherd (Ralph) of Winston-Salem, Delphia Block (Michael) of La Jolla, Calif., Judy Poe (Roger) and Geneva Spencer (Kenny ) both of Lansing and Linda Tedder (Danny) of Warrensville. The funeral service took place Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by his nephew, Pastor Michael Greer. Burial took place at Carolina Memorial Park with Military Honors conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Guard. The family received friends before the service. Brainard Lee "Butch" Roupe of Shawsville, Va. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 16, 2015. He was 73. He was a school bus driver for Montgomery County Schools for 30 years and was the centerpiece of the family he dearly loved. Preceding him in death were his grandmother, Ella Roupe; mother, Eunice Harrison; wife, Janie Blevins Roupe; and brother, Jack Harrison. His surviving family includes his sister, Vicki Snow; sons, Jonathan Roupe and fiancée, Linda Boone, and Phillip Roupe and wife, Christina; daughter, Bobbi Roupe Wheeler; grandchildren, Michael Roupe and wife, Nicole, Josh Roupe, and Ashley Underwood and husband, Tyler; great-grandchildren, Cody Roupe, Caiden and Camben Roupe, Ava Pipkin, and Aiden Underwood; several nieces and nephews; companion, Mary Roupe; stepsons, Roy Lane and wife, Gail, Clinton Lane and wife, Christina, Jackie Lane, and Willie Lephew; and 12 step-grandchildren. The family extends a special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice for their dedicated care. A period of visitation was held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va. A funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in the funeral home's chapel with the Rev. Virgil McHone officiating. Interment immediately followed at Cedar Lawn Burial Park in Salem.
