Joan Head

Mrs. Joan Bare Head of West Jefferson died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at her home. She was 77.

Mrs. Head was born March 14, 1936, in Ashe County to Roger and Virginia Johnson Bare.

Mrs. Head was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max Head; two sisters, Evelyn Lyons and Dorothy "Dot" Honeycut; and brother, Bill Bare.

Mrs. Head loved cooking and teaching. She grew up a member of Glendale Springs Presbyterian Church and later she and her husband joined Bethany United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Head is survived by three sons, Max Alexander Head Jr., William Badger Head and George Felix Head, all of West Jefferson; one sister, Christy Bare Winebarger of West Jefferson; one brother, Bud Bare of West Jefferson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Garrett Mahaffey. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service.
