ELKIN, NC—Every artist has an unfinished painting. Dan Moore's will be finished in Heaven. He was called Home to be with his Lord on July 6, 2013, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was 87. He was the son of Levi and Sallie Powell Moore Lamm. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his stepfather, C. T. Lamm; a brother, James Lee Moore; also, a son, Hal, in 1963. Dan and Wilma Parsons Moore met at Glade Valley High School in Alleghany County and both graduated in the Class of 1943. They recently moved to Parkwood Place Retirement Community in Elkin. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. His career was in fine furniture, primarily as co-owner of Dan Moore, Inc., in Augusta, Ga. He was a former member of West Augusta Rotary Club. As a young man he placed his trust in Jesus as Lord of his life. He was active at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Augusta, as Deacon, teacher and in other areas. He was a member of Warren Baptist Church, Augusta, at the time of his death. In addition to his wife of 69 years, he is survived by two children: Margie Story of West Jefferson; and Ed Moore (Lynn) of Locust Grove, Ga.; grandchildren: Jonathan (Sonja) Story of Bethlehem, Ga.; Laura Story of Evans, Ga.; Merrit Moore of Augusta, Ga.; Jessica Moore of Nashville, Tenn.; and a great granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., July 22, 2013, at Blue Ridge Baptist Church, West Jefferson. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated at the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. mtnvalleyhospice.org.
