Talmage Smith Byrd of Crumpler passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at his home.
He was born Sept. 8, 1931, at Independence, Va., to the late Hurley Byrd and Lollie Cole Byrd.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by son Jimmy Bryson Byrd; infant sister, Maxine; two brothers, Reavis and Raymond Byrd; by his first wife, Elizabeth Louise Halsey Byrd; and second wife, Ruby Taylor Byrd.
He is survived by two sons, Talmage Joseph Byrd of Lenoir and William E. Byrd of Granite Falls; two stepsons, J. D. Sharpe of Maryland and Joey Sharpe of Guntersville, Ala.; three stepdaughters, Norma Duffey of Lenoir, Alta (Barty) Eller of Rising Sun, Md., and Janet Dancy of Elkin; one sister, Geneva (Bryan) Halsey of Independence, Va.; two grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 1, 2013, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, Va. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Independence, Va., with Rev. Galvin Jones officiating.
