Mr. Robert Max Hartzog of Ferguson died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. He was 85.
Mr. Hartzog was born in Ashe County, on June 3, 1928, to Rockford and Ferry Fletcher Hartzog.
He was a long term deacon, Sunday school teacher and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He was also a member of Gideon's International. Mr. Hartzog served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was principal of Mt. Pleasant Elementary School from 1956 until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hartzog was preceded in death by a son, Max Edward Hartzog.
Mr. Hartzog is survived by his wife, Mary A. Fairchild Hartzog of the home; two sons, Kent Hartzog and wife, Karla of Millers Creek and Joe Hartzog and wife, Deborah of Wilkesboro; three sisters, Murelene Cheek, Anna Belle Henson, Sally Walters, all of Fleetwood; three grandchildren, Adrianne Chillemi, Jessica Hartzog Eneriz, Vanessa Hartzog; and three great grandchildren, Peter James Chillemi, Vivian Marie Chillemi, Elijah Eneriz.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Reach Center with Pastor Kevin Brown officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Gap Creek Cemetery in Deep Gap. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund, 239 Champion Mt. Pleasant Road, Wilkesboro, NC 28697, to Gideon's International Wilkes South Camp, P.O. Box 323, Wilkesboro, NC 28697 or to Gap Creek Cemetery Fund.

My sincerest condolences for your loss. It's comforting to know that we can look forward to a time when God will reverse the effects of death (Hosea 13:14) what a wonderful time ahead.
