John W. McNichols

McNichols, John W. "Jack" "Mac" Of Joliet, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Age 70. Born February 5, 1943 to the late John W. and Dorothy L. (nee May) McNichols. Survived by his loving wife of 38 years Barbara A. (nee Lorenz) McNichols; two sons Michael "Pickles" and Brian (Holly nee Keenan) McNichols; a daughter Kate (Jan Kendrick) McNichols. A granddaughter Shayleigh McNichols and three grandsons Declan and Brodan McNichols and Jude Kendrick. A dear sister Darlene McNichols. His favorite travel companion, his mother-in-law Herta M. Lorenz. Many great friends and neighbors also survive. Preceded in death by a son David McNichols (May 2013), his first wife Rose A. (nee Mauer) McNichols and his lifelong hero John Wayne. Born and raised in Joliet. Veteran of the US Army (31st Infantry); recipient of the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 2 Bronze Service Stars, Air Medal, Army Air Commendation Medal w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and C.I.B. Life member of Stone City Post 1080, 31st Infantry Regimental Association Life Member. Graduate of Joliet Township High School Central Class of 1961. Retired from Illinois Bell/Ameritech after 30 years. Jack was an avid traveler, loved camping and was a National Park enthusiast. Jack's greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Joliet Fire Department Station 5 and the entire ER staff at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center for the care given to Jack. Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers memorials to the volunteer services at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation Monday from 4:00-8:00 P.M.
