Robert A. Sayles

Sayles, Robert A. "Bob" Passed away at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, Saturday, July 13, 2013 after a brief three week battle with brain cancer. Age 71 years. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Sherry L. Sayles (nee Balog); two sons, Michael A. Sayles and Craig W. (Terri) Sayles; four grandsons, Nicholas A. Sayles, Michael C. Sayles, Blake W. Sayles and Cade R. Sayles; his mother-in-law, Shirley M. Balog; his brothers and sister, LeRoy (Rosemary) Sayles, Dean (Martha) Sayles, Kathleen (Jim) Morris and Larry (Marianne) Sayles; long time friends, Jerry and Jane Lewis; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Neva Sayles; his father-in-law, William F. Balog (2009) and his nephew, Tom Sayles (2004). Bob was born in Ashland, WI on February 16, 1942. He and his family were lifelong Joliet residents. Graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1960 and member of the Joliet Township High School Band. Graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science Class of 1964. Bob was the owner of Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home for the past 35 years. Member of the Will County Funeral Service Association and the Illinois Funeral Directors Association. Member and Past President of the Joliet Breakfast Lions Club, Joliet Elks and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #300. Life member of the PTA. Thirty-four year member and Bassoonist with Joliet Junior College Community Band. Bob's favorite pastime was spending time with his grandsons, wood working and wood carving. Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Tuesday, July 16 at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Robert D. Peterson officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice will be appreciated. Visitation will be held Monday from 2:00 8:00 P.M.
