Robert J. Conway Sr. Obituary
Conway Sr., Robert J. "Bob" Age 79, of Crest Hill, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Illinois Veterans Home, Manteno after a lingering illness. Born in Joliet, was a Joliet resident and a longtime resident of Crest Hill. Retired in 1994 from EJ and E Railroad after 43 years of service. Bob was very active and held various positions with the United Transportation Union on State and National levels. Concurrently, he was a firefighter with the Lockport Fire Department. He was also City Clerk of Crest Hill under the Felix Borio administration. A U.S. Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War. A life member of VFW Cantigny Post #367, member of American Legion Post #1080, Lockport Moose Lodge #1557, Joliet Rivals Club, Senior Citizens, Croatian Culture Club, Crest Hill Lion's Club and was also very active member at St. Anne Catholic Church, Crest Hill. Bob was an avid golfer and bowler and a DePaul, Notre Dame and White Sox fan. Preceded in death by a grandson Kevin, his parents Raymond and Helen (Sczepaniak) Conway, brothers Richard, William and Fred Conway and a sister Delores Johnson. Survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Dr. Barbara (Polyak) Greenham-Conway; his children Robert Jr. (Jill), Kathleen (Ralph) Kell and Jane (Keith) Baar; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother Raymond; step-daughters Sara (Anthony) Leone and Laura (David) Salela and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Illinois Veterans Home, Manteno activity program or charity of donor's choice would be appreciated. Funeral services will be held Monday, 9:15am from the O'NEIL FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 1105 E. 9TH ST. (159TH ST.), LOCKPORT to St. Anne church, Crest Hill for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville. Visitation Sunday, 2:00pm to 6:00pm.
