Gutierrez, Salvador J. "Gus" Age 82, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013. Born on June 27, 1931 in Joliet and a lifelong resident. Preceeded in death by his parents, Victor Gutierrez, Marie Marez; one daughter, Rose (Jaime) Arias; one sister, Sarah Palumbo and one nephew, John Victor Palumbo. Survived by and loving father to Daniel Smicker-Gutierrez, Natalie (John) Heron, Marina Gutierrez, Laura (Ruben) Vallejo, Karen, Victor, Ann Marie Bretz, Mary, John and Anna Gutierrez; grandchildren, Michael and Jill Mejia, Anthony Gutierrez, David Velasquez, Nicole Winchell, Sonnie (Eric) Lamb, Gabrielle Vallejo, Michael and Danielle James, Johnny Heron ,and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Connie Hamilton, Angie (Robert) Earle; numerous nieces, nephews family members and friends. United States Army Veteran (Private First Class-1954-1956) Retired from General Refractories, Executive Director for S.E.R Jobs for Progress, Accomplished Classical/Jazz Musician and Guitar teacher -Wurlitzer World of Music, Brandolino's Music Center, House Band for The Butler Hotel in Oakbrook and Band-Leader of "The Continentals". Gus also enjoyed outdoor activities like fishing, working on cars, going to flea-markets collecting tools and swimming. Past Member of Lily Cache Rod & Gun Club-Plainfield, Elks Club Joliet, American Legion Joliet, Knights of Columbus Joliet Zoning-Board of Appeals Joliet, School Board District 204 Joliet; Musicians Union of Joliet and Parishioner-St. Joes Catholic Church-Joliet In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
