Sister Tecla Snyder

Snyder, Sister Tecla, OSF (Cephas) Sister Tecla Snyder, OSF (1923 - 2013) died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet, Illinois on November 15, 2013. A native of Mansfield, Ohio, she was one of five children born to Lester and Anna (Santo) Snyder. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Frederick; and sisters, Florence Baum and Lucille Snyder. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Osmond of Mansfield, Ohio. Sister Tecla was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet) for 72 years. Before entering religious life, Sister Tecla was a member of St. Peter Parish in Mansfield, Ohio. She attended Hedges Grade School and Mansfield Senior High. She earned her Bachelor's Degree at the College of St. Francis (University of St. Francis) in Joliet, IL, and a Master of Arts Degree at the University of Notre Dame, IN. Her continuing education took her to Ciudad Universitoria, Madrid, Spain; Universided de Jaime Blames, Guadaljara, Mexico; University of San Francisco, CA; University of San Diego, CA, University of Arizona, AZ; University of Colorado, CO; University of Los Angeles, CA; and Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA. Sister Tecla began her teaching ministry in 1945 at SS. Peter and Paul High School in Chicago, IL. She also taught at St. Francis Academy (Joliet Catholic Academy) in Joliet, IL, and Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio and St. Peter High School in Mansfield, Ohio. In 1959 she began a 27 year ministry teaching in the Spanish Department at the College of St. Francis in Joliet, IL. In 1988 she returned to Joliet Catholic Academy and taught in the Spanish Department until 1996 when she left the teaching ministry to care for family members. The wake for Sister Tecla will be at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL, (Wyoming and Rt. 30) on Friday, November 22, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:45 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Procession will leave from Our Lady of Angels on Saturday morning, November 23, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. The Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, IL.
