Vernon R. Ferguson Obituary
Ferguson, Vernon R. "Junior" / "Fergie" Age 80, died December 4, 2013 after a battle with lung cancer. Born January 28, 1933 in West Chicago, Illinois, he was the only son of the late Vernon Sr. and Lillian (Marx). He was a graduate of JTHS and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married his love Rhea (Polly) Shreffler from Wilmington on December 28, 1957. Preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Polly (2009) and sisters, LaVerne (Harold) Pemble and Dora (William) Mirenic. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Daniel (Jody), Jeanne (Rick) Larson, Bob (fiancée Tammy Stephens), and Kathy. Vernon also leaves several grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Vern had a passion for trains that began long before he was born. His parents met as railroad telegraphers. Lillian working for the Chicago Northwestern, and Vern Sr. for the EJ&E. Following in the tradition of his parents, he began his career with the EJ&E in 1953 and retired in 1994 after 41 years of service. After retiring, Vern and Polly moved to Benton, IL where they enjoyed many years together. Even living south, Vern stayed true to being a Cubs fan, always hopeful. His sense of humor is something we will always remember. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Joliet Hospice and Emeritus for their loving care, even when told to "get the hell outta here!" Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. As per Vern's wishes, there will be no services.
