Michael T. Kulig Obituary
Michael T. Kulig Born: Sept. 29, 1931; In Chicago, IL Died: April 29, 2014; In Highland, IL Michael T. Kulig, age 82, of Highland, IL, died April 29, 2014. He was born on September 29, 1931, in Chicago, IL, the son of Michael F. and Sophie (nee Glowa) Kulig. On August 25, 1956, he married Joan C. Kulig (nee McLinden) who survives. Born and raised in Chicago, IL; served with the US Air Force on active duty from November 8, 1951 until June 19, 1953, during the Korean War, stationed with the Far East Logistical Force near Tokyo. He graduated from Lewis College in Lockport, IL in 1958, where he went into teaching at Richland Grade School in Crest Hill, Illinois. He coached all boys sports, and later became the District Superintendent. In 1978, he moved to become Superintendent of the Akeley, Minnesota, School District, where he also coached High School Varsity Football, until his retirement in 1989. He received numerous honors for his work in Education, and community service. His memberships included Holy Family School Board (past President); chairmen of Will County United Crusade, and American Cancer Society; Lewis University Alumni Association (past vice-president); Akeley Lion's Club (past President and Secretary); Highland Lion's Club, Highland, IL; and member of VFW Post 5694 - Highland IL. Survivors include his wife, Joan C. Kulig nee McLinden, Highland, IL; sons, Michael A. (Kathy) Kulig, Highland, IL, Mark T. Kulig, Highland, IL, Matthew P. (Kathy) Kulig, Millstadt, IL; daughters, Stacy (Douglas) Clift, Alexandria, VA, Tracy A. (Lt Col, Ignacio, USAF Retired) Alvarez, Lorton, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathleen Susan Kulig (died at 6 months, Oct 8, 1960); and eight siblings. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Illinois, www.spengel-boulanger.com. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 2, 2014, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL, with Rev. Fr. Paul Kala, Pastor, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Greenville, IL, officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Donor's Choice.
