Terry Gant Obituary
Gant, Terry He made his eternal transition on April 3, 2013. He was a lifelong resident of Joliet, IL and U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. He was born on August 6, 1948 to the late Ethel Mae and Robert Gant in Joliet, IL. Educated at Fairmont and Joliet elementary schools. He graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1967. Affectionately known as "The Southside's Best" letter carrier in Joliet, he demonstrated a genuine love, compassion and concern for those he served. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 36 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Mae and Robert Gant; his twin brother, Jerry Gant; two sisters, Mae Jewel Gant and Loretta Myers. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife, Linda; two daughters, Tamala and Tiffany of Joliet, IL; two sisters, Opal (Floyd) Harris of Markham, IL, and Patricia Gant of Joliet, IL; sister-in-law, Essie M. Bell of Fort Wayne, IN; brother-in-law, Robert J. Sims, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA; special brothers-in-law, John Sampson and Rufus Sims of Joliet, IL, and Eugene (Brenda) Sims of Racine, WI; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. His love in action, loyalty to friends and tenacity to stand on God's Word will never be forgotten. Special thanks to Illinois State Police District 5, Joliet Area Community Hospice, Dr. Maria Quejada and the Edward Hospital Cancer Center Staff and our Mt. Zion Baptist Church family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 2-5 pm at the funeral home and Thursday, April 11, 2013 10-11 am at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 402 Singleton Pl., Joliet, IL. Service at 11 am, Pastor David G. Latimore, officiating. Interment following at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Minor-Morris Funeral Home, 112 Richards St. (815)723-1283.
