Charles "Chuck" Cruys Vorderberg II, 67, of Gallup, N.M. died Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, in his home following a battle with cancer. A service to celebrate his life will be held in 2014 at Zion Congregational Church (date to be announced).
Chuck was born in Davenport, Iowa, on Nov. 2, 1946.
Although trained as an accountant, in 1993 Chuck answered God's call to ministry and entered Columbia Seminary in Atlanta, Ga. Since then he has touched lives in the churches he has served in Georgia, West Virginia and most recently at Zion Congregational Church in Sterling.
Chuck was a loving father, devoted husband, dedicated friend, and an everlasting servant to our Lord Jesus Christ. He had a strong desire to simplify and enrich people's lives, which was evident to all who knew him. His sense of humor also could brighten any room.
Chuck loved photography, jazz, classical music, and writing. He demonstrated unique talent in all of these. Chuck loved to travel and in any spare time he could muster, would make his way to beautiful locations for a hike or to take photos. However he always made time for his family, no matter how busy his daily schedule.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Karen Kendregan Vorderberg, his four children, Jeff Vorderberg and wife Suzzi of St. Paul, Minn., Dana McChesney and husband Matthew of Waynesboro, Va., Jason Vorderberg of Sterling, and Weston Vorderberg and wife Nicole of Farmington, N.M. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Aubrey Vorderberg, of Antioch, Tenn.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Florence Vorderberg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Chuck's Soup Kitchen at Zion Congregational Church, P.O. Box 1175, Sterling, CO 80751.
