Ralph E. Gardner, 71, of Lake Hughes, Calif., passed away of cancer on Oct. 7, 2013. A memorial service was held Nov. 17 in Lake Hughes.
Ralph was born July 29, 1942, in Rogers, Ark., to Harold and Clara (Aagesen) Gardner. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1960.
He served in the National Guard from March of 1960 to March 1964, and in the U.S. Army from August 1964 to 1967. He worked in upholstery until his retirement.
He married Marijean Smith; they later divorced. On June 30, 1990, he married Susan Davis, the love of his life.
Ralph loved his horses and working on the ranch.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; brothers, Ivan Gardner of Sterling, Robert Gardner of Tennesee, Melvin Gardner and wife Theresa of Sterling, Gerald Gardner of Missouri; sisters, Lorene Simmering of Pennsylvania, Alene Dowdy of Tennesee, Carrie Hirschfeld and husband Al of Sterling; two children; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Randy and Mary Wells.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Clara Gardner; sister-in-law, Betty Gardner; and brothers-in-law, Warren Simmering and Don Dowdy.
