August "Augie"?Luft, 92, of Sterling, passed away Aug. 22, 2013, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James R. Nash officiating. Services will conclude at the church.
Augie was born March 31, 1921, in Sterling to Conrad J. and Barbara (Schad) Luft. He graduated from high school and continued his education for another year.
He entered the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged. He worked at the Port of Entry for 19 years. After his retirement, he farmed and drove truck.
On Sept. 5, 1981, he married Dorothy L. Trout in Littleton.
Augie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was a lay minister for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He was a calf and team roper at the rodeos. He enjoyed playing golf. He trained horses and dogs and loved all animals.
Augie was the last of a family of 15 children.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. Luft of Sterling; sons, Tim Luft of Gandera, Texas, Tom Luft and wife Teresa of Ellensburg, Wash., Steve Trout and wife Gina of Johnstown, Tom Trout of Sterling, Jim Trout and wife Brenda of Sterling; daughters, Susan Crisswell of Edmond, Okla., Annette Scott and husband Tom of Elkhart, Kan., Dana Quintana and husband Mike of Sterling; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters and grandson, Tyler Trout.
