Betty Lou McGroom, 78, of Sterling, passed away March 15, 2014, in Greeley. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with services concluding at the funeral home.
Betty was born Dec. 19, 1935, in Englewood to Joseph M. and Mildred (Kern) Myers.
She owned and operated Downstairs Lounge in Denver, and the Little Gold Mine in Blackhawk. She worked many years as a secretary and the University Hospital. She also worked for Volunteers of America, where she retired as secretary.
She married Clarence R. McGroom.
Betty enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing chess and cards, and loved casino gambling.
She is survived by her sons, Rusty Tidwell and wife Rita, Richard Gregory McGroom; daughter, Rebecca Peters and husband Kenn; daughter-in-law, Verla Tidwell; 20 grandchildren; sister, Josephine Adams; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives; and special friends, Pat, Deb, Marie, Ken, Kayla and Samantha.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence McGroom on Dec. 26, 2005; son, Rock Edward Tidwell; sisters, Mary and Maxine; and brother, Joseph.
