George C. Fehringer Obituary

George C. Fehringer, 82, of Gering, Neb., and former Peetz resident, passed away Monday morning, July 8, 2013, at the Heritage Estates in Gering. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday. Rosary and wake services will be held at 7 p.m, Thursday evening, July 11, with Mass Services at 10 a.m., Friday, July 12. Both services will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peetz. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

George Clemens Fehringer, the son of John and Clara (Wemhoff) Fehringer, was born on Aug. 31, 1930, at Sterling. He attended the Peetz Schools, graduating with the Peetz High School Class of 1948.

Following graduation, George worked on the family farm and began learning the electrical trade, a skill he used for many years to help family and friends.

On Nov. 14, 1951, he joined the United States Marines, receiving his honorable discharge Nov. 2, 1953, and returned to the family farm.

On Aug. 11, 1972, George was united in marriage to Janice Rose (Yeager) Devier at Dalton, Neb. They made their home on the farm, making it the only place George ever called home.

George had been a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion where he held the office of Commander and several others, the Peetz Men's Club the Peetz Elevator Board and enjoyed participating in bowling league.

Survivors include his wife, Janice of Gering; four children, Roxanne Watson and husband Peter, Michael Devier, Susan Devier, all of Golden, and Shawn Fehringer and wife Amy of Thornton; four siblings, Dorothy "Dot" Treinen of Sidney, Neb., Kate Zach of Salem, Ore., Sister Clara Fehringer of Lexington, Ky., and Jack Fehringer and wife Maryanne of Loveland; three grandchildren, Mariah Hodgens, and Maeve and Clara Fehringer.

George was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Darlet Devier; and his siblings, Esther, Jerome, Irwin, Mary Ann, Philomena, Margaret, Clement and Louis.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Janice Fehringer for later distribution to the or the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
