Larry Haynes Obituary
Larry Haynes, 77, of rural Holyoke, passed away Aug. 21, 2014 with family at his side after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Services for Larry Haynes were Monday, Aug. 25, at the Holyoke United Methodist Church in Holyoke, with Pastor Al Strauss officiating. Burial followed in the Holyoke Cemetery. Baucke Funeral Home directed the arrangements. Larry Kenton Haynes was born northwest of Holyoke on Oct. 28, 1936, to Mary (Noren) and Clyde William Haynes. Larry farmed and ranched his entire life in northeast Colorado, building a base of respect and appreciation with whom he interacted. He graduated from Dailey and Fleming schools, and from Adams State College. He began his teaching career in Merino. In the summers he would install hot tar roofs, train race horses, and farm/ranch with his twin brother, Garry. In 1962, he moved to Holyoke to teach and continue farming. In May of 1969, he married Carol Douglas and had two sons, Brad and Ryan. He taught for 22 years, before becoming a county commissioner for 12 years, farming throughout this time. He had drive to continue learning in order to be the best he could be. He loved to teach and mentored numerous people. His ability to break down complex issues into manageable tasks for success was one of his greatest gifts. He touched many lives. Larry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol, two sons (Brad and Ryan), and 5 grandchildren. He's also survived by 5 siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews.
