Russell W. "'Rusty'" George Obituary

Russell W. "Rusty" George, 76, of Sidney, Neb., passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2. Rosary Services will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, with Funeral Mass Services at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 3. Both services will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sidney, with Fr. Art Faesser officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Russell William George, the son of William Ralph and Virginia (Herbert) George, was born on Aug. 15, 1937, on the family farm southeast of Sidney. He attended St. Patrick's Academy K-12 before continuing his education at Colorado State University and returning to the family farm where he remained his entire life. On Dec. 5, 1957, Rusty was united in marriage to Donna L. Dick at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sidney. They were blessed with 55 years together.

Rusty enjoyed baseball and bowling, and was a wheat producer and cattle rancher up to the time of his death. He is a former board member of Co-op Grain Elevator, a Knights of Columbus member for more than 50 years, a member of the Sidney Elks Lodge and was active in 4-H. Rusty is a lifetime member of St. Patrick's Church, serving in many capacities from Alter Boy to Lector, Eucharistic Minister, usher and served on the St. Patrick's School Board. Farming was Rusty's life and main hobby.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of Lodgepole; five children: Russ George and wife Deb of Sidney, Debbie King and husband Jerry of Graham, Wash., Bill George and wife Brenda of Sidney, Michelle Studnicka and husband Ron of Sidney and Denise Forsstrom and husband Rick of Scottsbluff, Neb.; one sister, Marianne George of Castle Rock; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Rusty was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Wanda Schultz.

Memorial contributions may be made in Rusty's name to St. Patrick's Church.
