Willie E. Volz, 91, of Sterling, passed away Feb. 22, 2014, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 2 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, with Rosary to follow at 6:30 p.m., at Tennant Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with Fr. Wojciech Gierasimczyk officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Willie was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Wasserlos, Germany, to Wendell and Katharina (Kerber) Volz. He graduated from Padroni High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Okinawa, Japan. Willie worked for Coca-Cola in Sterling and also Logan County Road and Bridge.
On Feb. 12, 1947, he married Catherine Behm. They were married 67 years.
Willie was a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, yard work and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Volz; daughter, Cynthia Plasters and Paul; son, Dennis Volz and Bonnie; grandchildren, Aaron Volz and Jen, Jason Plasters and Heather, Shanda Kos and Bob; great-grandchildren, Morgan Plasters, Kinsey and Kamden Volz.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Katharina and Wendell Volz; brothers, Herman and Albert Volz.
