Ernest J. DeSoto, 86, of Sterling, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, in Sterling. A Vigil and Rosary Evening Service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Tennant Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 11, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Wojciech Gierasimczyk celebrating.

Ernie was born on April 26, 1926, in Sterling to Dominic and Frances (Bianco) DeSoto. He went to Iliff school for seven years, Fairview for two years, and Sterling High School for three years.
He was in the Army from 1946-47. He farmed from 1953 to 1963 and worked for Sterling Livestock from 1963 to 1996.
He married Roma Lee Wilson on Oct. 7, 1951, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Iliff. They were married for 56 years. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed watching baseball and any sport his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were playing.
He is survived by daughters, Marsha Ogley, Diane Rhodes and husband Dennis, Sandy Kiel and husband Tom; son, Bruce DeSoto; granddaughters, April Ogley, Shawna Bell and husband Jason, Alyssa DeSoto, Madison and Macy Kiel; grandsons, Matt Rhodes and Jay Kiel; great-granddaughters, Rajsha Sanchez, Adonika Bolt, Lyla Bell, Adajsha Ogley; sisters, Marge Mansuetti, Corinne Gerk, Theresa Wilson; brother, Don DeSoto and wife Loretta; brother-in-law, Vurn Wilson; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roma; parents, Dominic and Frances; son-in-law, Dennis Ogley; granddaughter, Chelsea Ogley; in-laws, George Mansuetti, Joe Gerk, Ron Wilson, Lela and Ray Graber, Beverly and Ed Reed.
