Josephine Falls officiating. Interment will be at noon Friday, May 10, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.

Sylvester was born on Jan. 4, 1926, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Champion and Millie (Roby) Brooks. He attended school through the 10th grade, but quit to assist his mother with raising the family. He served for our country as a Marine during World War II from 1944-46.

He was previously married to Betty Brooks for 25 years. On Sept. 21, 2002, he married Felicia M. Brooks. They were married for 10 years and 7 months.

He worked as a butcher for Colorado Lamb for 40 years.

He was a member of the Redeeming Grace Gospel Church for several years and Fishers of Men Fellowship for the past 10 years.

He loved to help all people, especially the elderly who sometimes were unable to help themselves. He made himself available to assist them whenever called upon. He also loved to make people laugh. He was a skilled and knowledgeable man who was respected by many. His two most favorite quotes were: "I can't live in this world alone" and "But, there's one thing about it!" Those who knew him well knew what that meant.

Sylvester is survived by his wife, Felicia M. Brooks of Peetz; daughters, Sharon Williams and husband of Goldsboro, N.C., and LaHonda Odoms and husband of Denver; sons, Larry Brooks, Brady Crenshaw and wife, Hershel Franklin, Chancey Thompson, Joey Brooks and wife Jody Brooks, all of Denver; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; sisters Hester Nation, Leomi Taylor, Rebecca Evans

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ms. Millie Roby; father, Champion Brooks; sisters, Willie Mae Woody, Mrs. Cozetta Brooks, and Mrs. Alice Rae McDade; brother, Walter Jones.

The family suggest in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Sylvester Brooks Memorial Fund in care of Tennant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751 or Mrs. Felicia Brooks, P.O. Box 37, Peetz, CO 80747.
