Margaret "Peg" Alice Anderson, R.N. died Aug. 23, 2013, in Oakland, Calif., following a brief illness. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Riverside Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 7, 1939, in Denver, to Dr. Lloyd W. and Eleanor W. Anderson. Peg was the eldest of 5 children and was preceded in death by her parents and brother Capt. Mike D. Anderson.
She was a graduate of Sterling High School with the class of 1957 and a member of National Honor Society, Pep Club, Modern Dance and Thespians.
Peg knew all of her life that she wanted nothing more than to be a nurse and her first job was as a nurse's aide at St. Benedict Hospital in Sterling. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Denver in 1961 and enjoyed a long career in nursing starting with the Nebraska Psychiatric Institute in Omaha. She then moved to Key West, Fla., and from there to Alameda, Calif., where she served as the Supervisor of Nursing at Berkeley Psychiatric Hospital for many years. Eventually she worked in hospital administration until her retirement in 2004. She continued living in Alameda until her death.
In her spare time, she enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing the guitar and Ford Mustangs.
She is survived by a brother, Dr. Jim Anderson and wife Kay of San Carlos, Calif.; a sister, Ginger (Virginia) Nixt of Highlands Ranch; another sister, Linda Anderson of Portland, Ore.; and five nieces and two nephews.
