Jeanette Smith, 71, passed away Feb. 2, 2014, in Merino. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7. at First English Lutheran Church with Pastor David Loeschke officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Jeanette was born Jan. 1, 1943, in Columbus, Neb., to Herman R. and Emilie (Brakenhoff) Fittje.
On April 20, 1968, she married Dale Smith in Boulder.
She was the owner of D&J Electric and had multiple hobbies and interests. Jeanette loved to sew and make quilts and was active in supporting Special Olympics in Sterling. Family was very important to her and she also enjoyed being a foster parent.
Jeanette is survived by her husband, Dale Smith; children, Jennifer McLinn of Emporia, Kan., Todd Smith and wife Cathy of Sterling, Rhonda Berges and husband Mark of Sterling, Keith Smith of Sterling, Randy Basford of Sterling; grandchildren, Jamie, Chris, Kelli, Ashley, Amanda, Brittanie, Shane, Savannah, Arron and Ryan; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Nevaeh, Gary III, Trenton, Aliyana, Ava, Aidan, Andrew, Marcus, Abbie, Hailey, Madison and Joselyn; brother, Lewis Fittje of Omaha, Neb.; sister-in-law, Mary Fittje of Grand Junction.
She is preceded by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.
Memorials may be made to First English Luthern Church or Special Olympics.
