Leona Keil

1922 - 2014

Leona (Steitz) Keil, died September 5, 2014. She was born October 22, 1922 to Jake and Elizabeth Steitz of Bison, Kansas. She grew up in Bison, Kansas and received her education there. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Otis, Kansas. After graduation, she worked as a Nurses Aid for 10 years first at St. Rose Hospital at Great Bend, Kansas and then at the hospital in Sterling, Colorado. In 1945, Leona married Dave Keil of Iliff, Colorado. They were married 65 years. Leona and Dave farmed for 20 years, of which the first 4 years were at Belle Fourche, South Dakota. In 1950 they moved to Colorado and farmed near Sterling, Colorado at Proctor. They moved to Sterling in 1966 where she worked as a Nurse's Aide at Rose Arbor Nursing Home and also at Sterling Hospital. In 1972, they moved to Greeley where Leona worked for North Colorado Medical Center for 15 years in the housekeeping department. Leona is survived by her children Larry and wife Connie of Ft. Lupton, Diana Gallegos and husband Manuel of Greeley, Cheryl Gantz of Evans and Wayne and companion Colleen Kruger of Ft. Collins; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church followed by Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
