Mildred Marie Jones

Mildred Marie Jones passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones Sept. 18, 2014.

She was born Sept. 7, 1930, to George Syphers and Mildred Chadwick in Willimantic, and later adopted by Daisy and Henry Spinks.

Along with her parents, Millie is predeceased by her husband, Stanley S. Jones; by her siblings David (Frankie) Pomery and David Samuels; and her son-in-law Harvey E. Daggett.

Millie enjoyed square and round dancing, but her greatest pleasure in life was caring for her family, and because of that same caring and smile she gave to all she will be missed by all who have known her. She worked at The American Thread Company before going to The University of Connecticut, where she worked for 34 years. She retired and then went back to UConn, working part time for another 26 years. Also during this time she delivered The Hartford Courant for 25 years, retiring at 80 years old.

Millie leaves two children, Cynthia Lou Schaffer of Ashford, Dale Ann Jones and her life partner, Dave Kwaczala, of Sacramento, California. Millie's greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the beloved Nana to two grandchildren, Bonny Jo Bergin Young and her husband, Mike Young, of Brooklyn, and Shane Schaffer of Tolland; and five great-grandchildren, Kylee and Devin Bergin, and Ethan, Julia, and Lexie Young. She also was the proud aunt to several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Millie's favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or charity of the donor's choice in lieu of flowers.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Route 195), Willimantic.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at St. Joseph Church in Eagleville. Interment will follow at Pink Cemetery in Mansfield.
