Edward H. Luginbuhl, lifetime resident of Ellington, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, June 6, 2014, surrounded by his family at home. He was 87.
Ed was born to Christian and Bertha (Schneider) Luginbuhl on Jan. 15, 1927, in Ellington, the seventh of 11 children. He also attended school in Ellington. Ed was a lifelong farmer. He raised dairy cows and draft horses and harvested many different crops throughout his years. He loved his John Deere tractors, and restored many of them. He was a member of the Scantic Valley Tractor Club the Farm Bureau, and the Central Connecticut Co-Op for years as well. He was a man of deep faith, and was a member of the Rockville Congregation of the Apostolic Christian Church. He taught many in the example he set, and leant a listening ear to any who needed it. Ed loved his family, who joined him weekly for Monday night dinners and throughout the summer months back at the pond.
Ed is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alma (Lanz) Luginbuhl, whom he married on his birthday in 1950, and loved deeply each day since; his eight children, Dale, and his wife, Kathy, John, and his wife, Susan, Phillip, and his wife, Nancy, Scott, and his wife, JoAnn, Sandra Hany, and her husband, Brian, Mark, and his wife, Robin, Les, and his wife, Lisa, and Sherry Skinner, and her husband, Everett. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; three siblings in Ellington, Rudy Luginbuhl, and his wife, Evelyn, Adele Trueb, and her husband, Ronald, and Elizabeth Luginbuhl; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law. Many, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends will also miss him. Ed is predeceased by his parents; seven siblings, Christine, Esther, Martin, Robert, David, Urban, Emmanuel; and his grandson, Warren Skinner.
The family will receive friends for calling hours on Saturday, June 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church, 34 Middle Butcher Road, Ellington.
Funeral services will be held at the church on Sunday, June 8, at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in Ellington Cemetery.
Arrangements are managed by Small & Pietras Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Longview Village, 34 Middle Butcher Road, Ellington, or the Visiting Nurse & Health Services of Connecticut, 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon.

It is difficult to believe it has been 6 years since Ed passed away. Missed by so many. Ed's love, concern and kindness was so evident as we visited many times. We know how much his dear wife, Alma misses him. Our prayers for her today and the family. June 6th.

Alma and the entire Luginbuhl family;
I was saddened to hear of the loss of Ed. I have many fond memories as a little girl going on farm calls with my late father Allan. I will be forever touched by the memory of you and Ed coming to my dad's memorial service in 2002. It warmed the hearts of both myself and my late mother. Please know that there is another star shining down from heaven to watch over you. My deepest condolences.
