Gerald Crowley Obituary

Gerald P. "Bud" Crowley, 90, formerly of Enfield, widower of Mary "Mae" (Bruno) Crowley (2002), entered into eternal peace Wednesday Sept. 11, 2013, at The Suffield House.

The son of the late Michael and Mabel (Watton) Crowley, Bud was born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield and had lived in the community most of his life. A U.S. Army World War II Veteran, he served his country honorably and was a member of the VFW. Following his service, Bud was employed by the former Bigelow Sanford Co. in Thompsonville from 1946-1971, where he also served as secretary treasurer for the AFL-CIO. He was later employed at GE retiring after many years with the company. His civic involvement with his home community was tireless as he served as councilman for the Enfield Town Council beginning in 1969 serving 25 years. He served on the Enfield Planning and Zoning Commission, as well as the Zoning Board of Appeals. Bud also served as a volunteer fireman for District 2 in Enfield. He was a former sheriff at the Enfield Superior courthouse for over 10 years, and also was a member of the Enfield Housing Authority. Bud also enjoyed sports and was an avid Red Sox fan.

He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Crowley-McClure of Enfield; two granddaughters, Kristen McClure of East Hartford and Kari Lui and her husband, Eric, of East Windsor; a grandson, Kenny McClure and his wife, Heather, of Enfield; a great-grandson, Ethan Lui; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Mae, Bud was predeceased by his son, Michael Crowley; two brothers, Francis "Wee" Crowley, and James "Slick" Crowley; and a sister, Margaret Knowlton.

Family and friends will gather at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, for a procession to St. Patrick Church, 64 Pearl St., Enfield for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Committal with military honors will follow at St. Patrick King Street Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, Sept. 15, from 2 to 5 p.m.
