Constance DePeau Obituary

Constance (Percival) DePeau, 90, of Somers, passed peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, surrounded by family. She was the widow of Edward A. DePeau and was a World War II veteran and lifelong resident of Somers.

Connie was born in Stafford Springs on March 2, 1922, a daughter of the late Dwight and Mildred Percival, and was a member of the Somers Congregational Church. After graduating from nursing school at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, she voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army as a nurse. Following her Army service, which included being stationed in Hawaii and on Guam caring for wounded servicemen from Okinawa and Iwo Jima as a member of the 204th Army general hospital unit, she was honorably discharged with the rank of first lieutenant in 1946. Upon returning home to Somers, she met her future husband, Edward, and they were married just over a year later. Together, they built a home on her parent's farmstead on which they raised a family and remained for the rest of their lives.

Surviving Constance are seven sons, Alfred, and his wife, Darlene, of Somers, Kenneth, and his wife, Marcia, of Union, Dwight, and his wife, JoAnne, of Carmel, Ind., Edward, and his wife, Jackie, of Willington, Dana of Somers, Alan, and his wife, Lisa, of Ridgeway, Va., and Norman of San Jose, Calif.; four daughters, Donna, and her husband, Raymond Hurd, of Las Vegas, Nev., Diane, and her husband, Terry Carleton, of Somers, Dorothy DePeau, and her husband, Stephen D'Esopo, of Londonderry, N.H., and Brenda, and her husband, Michael Peloso, of Willington; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

At the request of the family, calling hours and funeral services with burial in Stafford Springs Cemetery, Stafford Springs, will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
