Eda E. Basile, 87, wife of the late Joseph J. Basile (2007), died peacefully at home surrounded by her children Friday, April 4, 2014, after a courageous 16-year battle with breast cancer.
Eda was born in West Springfield, Mass., on Aug. 9, 1926, the daughter of the late Luigi and Marzia (Galante) D'Agostino. She graduated from West Springfield High School and then worked in the Notions Department of the Steiger's Department Store. Upon her marriage to Joe on Oct. 15, 1949, she resided in Enfield for the rest of her life. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Patrick Church in Thompsonville. Eda was known as the consummate homemaker, wife, and mother. She and Joe enjoyed attending dinner dances at the Shaker Farms Country Club in Westfield, Mass., and the Dante Club in West Springfield, Mass. After his retirement, they enjoyed travelling the United States and Europe, cruising, as well as winter vacationing in Florida, collecting mugs wherever they went. In her spare time, Eda enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles, solving word puzzles, collecting Disney Snow White memorabilia, and, in her later years, playing games on a laptop and iPad.
Eda is survived by her son, Thomas J. Basile of Enfield, and daughter, Maryann G. Basile, and her boyfriend, Richard Nowak, of Wethersfield. Eda also leaves her brother and sister-in-law, Angelo and Barbara D'Agostino of West Springfield, Mass., and her sister-in-law Barbara D'Agostino of Agawam, Mass. She is also survived by her in-laws, Anthony and Isabella Basile, Vincie Basile, Jeanne Basile, all of Enfield, and Jane Basile of Melbourne, Fla. Eda also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Albert D'Agostino, and her in-laws Thomas Basile, Carlo Basile, and Adam and Eva (Basile) Fusick.
The family wishes to thank the Rev. Anthony Bruno and the staffs of the Springfield Medical Associates, Enfield Medical Associates, Home & Community Health Services (Hospice), and Caring Solutions for their love and support during the final months of Eda's life.
Funeral services in celebration of Eda's life will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Pearl and High streets, Thompsonville section of Enfield. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery, Enfield.

Mary Ann and Tommy, Your mom was a wonderful neighbor. When I worked in my garden, she would come over and we would talk about all kinds of things. She will be missed.

Dear Tom,
I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your Mother. You were a very devoted Son and I enjoyed your visits to my office while you were waiting for your Mom to get her hair done. You took such good care of her and I know it is a big void in your life.
