Piolunek, Frank Michael "Frankie"
Frank "Frankie" Michael Piolunek, July 12, 1949, to Dec. 16, 2014. It is with the saddest of hearts that we inform you our family and friends that Frank has passed away after a courageous and hard-fought eight-year battle of myelodysplastic syndrome, a disease of the blood and bone. You may not have known how ill he was or that he was ill at all, but that was Frank's wish. We have lost our best friend, lover, husband, and father. Frank leaves Linda A. Lofstrom-Piolunek, his wife 34 years, best friend, traveling buddy, wine-drinking pal, to cherish his memory; as well as, Justin M. and Sonia Piolunek, Tyler W. Piolunek, and Whitney Thurrott, the loves of his life. Frank was a man who loved life, family, and friends. Frank loved to meet new people and experience new adventures wherever in the world he went, from zip-lining in Belize to climbing Mount Vesuvius. Frank's legacy would be a man who was truly a kind and gentle man. Frank asked for me to pass on these words: "Live everyday as if it were your last, remember to tell those you love how much you love them, and share in the moments you have together and to venture out into the world and leave your smile and laughter with those you meet on your journey of life." If you remember nothing else about Frank, please remember he had the biggest heart and the greatest love of life, family, and friends and he loved to talk. Per Frank's wishes there will be not a wake or funeral. However, there will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, from 2 to 5 p.m. at MCC Arts and Education Center, 903 Main St., Manchester. Our family would like to thank Dr. Arza Raza from Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Bilgrami, and Frank's favorite nurse Gloria of the St. Francis Cancer Center and all the wonderful support and caring he received from each and every one of you the wonderful nursing staff on the 8-1 floor of St. Francis Hospital. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Or perhaps donate a pint of blood or become a bone marrow donor to honor Frank and maybe save a life. The John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Manchester has care of the arrangements. For online condolences, visit
